About…Why Run?
Hi there!
For many years, I have been a journalist and copy writer for NGOs, often interviewing people about very personal issues affecting their lives.
Three years ago at the age of 54 - following a health scare and some rather stressful episodes in my own life - (more of those later!) - I completed the Couch to 5k app. Every run, I followed Jo Wiley’s instructions as she told me when to run and when to walk until, after eight weeks, I could run for 30 minutes non-stop. I have never been a sporty person, so I felt a real sense of achievement when I completed the programme.
Even in Week One, it was rewarding to see that by running for one minute and walking for one minute over 20 minutes, I had completed an additional 3,000 steps that day.
Why Run? is my first podcast bringing together my interests. When I started running, my focus was upon improving my fitness and I completely underestimated the benefits to my mental health. I felt so much brighter and happier after I went for a run - and the feeling lasted for a couple of days.
It is this aspect of running that fascinates me. Every week on Why Run?, I am extremely privileged to interview a different guest about how running has helped them through a particularly painful or difficult time in their lives. For them and me, life feels better after a run. So I hope you enjoy listening to their stories and they will inspire and motivate you to get out and go for a run. I look forward to hearing about your experiences on Why Run? social media and please do get in touch, if you have a story to share.
Happy listening and happy running!
